Ahmed is the Managing partner of the Dubai office of Vinson & Elkins, an international law firm that is consistently recognized as “the World’s Leading Energy Law Firm” by Euromoney, 1995-Present. He has substantial experience advising on complex energy project finance and development matters in the Middle East and Caspian, including the multi-sourced financings of Yemen LNG, the Dolphin Pipeline and the BTC Pipeline. He also advises several governments in the Middle East on large scale energy projects and energy legislation. In addition, Ahmed represents clients on complex cross-border, private and public M&A and joint venture transactions in the Middle East, Europe and the U.S. His M&A experience includes previously working at Morgan Stanley’s Global Energy Group in New York. Ahmed has extensive knowledge of the Middle East, particularly Iraq, having advised numerous clients in the country including the Ministry of Oil in connection with the US$17 billion Basrah Gas Project and on the multi-billion dollar Iraq-Jordan Export Pipeline Project; additionally he has advised two leading U.S. private equity firms in connection with two potential acquisitions in Iraq. He continues to be recognized for the past five years by Chambers and Partners list of legal experts on Iraq. Prior to joining V&E, Ahmed was resident in the London office of another leading law firm. He is also a Recommended Lawyer for Iraq by the Legal 500 EMEA 2018 rankings. Ahmed, a native Arabic speaker, is a graduate of Harvard College and Harvard Law School and is admitted to practice in the State of New York.
