Senior Economist, Energy Economics, Strategy & Sustainability
the Arab Petroleum Investments Corporation (APICORP)
Mustafa Ansari is the Senior Economist at APICORP, the Arab Petroleum Investments Corporation. He joined in May 2015 where he led the work on the company’s monthly commentary as well as its MENA Annual Energy Investment Outlook. A key function of his role is to provide energy intelligence to support the institutions lending and investment activities, in order to ensure the long-term development and sustainability of the region.
Previously he was an Economist at the Department of Energy and Climate Change (UK), where he covered posts on energy efficiency, decarbonisation of the UK’s heat intensive industries and on international and domestic oil & gas markets. He led the economic analysis for the business case to establish the Green Investment Bank – the primary source of funding for projects that mitigated climate change. In 2014 – during a period of rapid declines in energy prices – he provided regular advice to ministers and government that helped them reinforce the UK’s policy on decarbonisation.
Mustafa has a Bachelors in Economics from City University of London, and a Masters in Development Economics from the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS). His areas of specialisation are climate change strategy, energy economics and MENA policy.
